An Indonesian has lodged a police report against the moviegoer producer of horror flick Mr. Bean Kesurupan Depe (Mr. Bean is owned by Depe) for misleading consumers.
Mohammed Rudjito, a lawyer based in Jakarta, presented the report on Monday in the headquarters of Bogor police, accusing the film director, KK Dheeraj, of committing fraud.
Rudjito posted in Bogor the report as that was where he saw the film at a local cinema.
"I reported the police report, because I was cheated by the promotional posters of the film, who say that Mr. Bean will be marked, but he never appeared in the film. This is fraud, "told The Jakarta Post yesterday Rudjito.
Rudjito said he went to the film after seeing the promotional poster, where the words "foreign actor" and "Mr. Bean", references that him convinced that she meant the actor Rowan Atkinson, who created the character Mr. Bean.
He left the cinema early after seeing that the character "Bean" was played only by a look-alike.
The film, produced by Rebellion productions and directed by Dheeraj, opened on 7 June and movie posters imply that the British comedic actor Rowan Atkinson as Mr. Bean. Posters and trailers for the film displaying Atkinson with his trademark grin wearing a white pocong (death shroud).
Other fans who saw the movie claimed the actor Bean playing only a look-alike. The film producer said in a statement that the film "the real Mr. Bean from England" featured.
The official Mr. Bean Facebook page a statement to clarify that Atkinson had nothing to do with the production of the local horror flick.
"Please be aware that it has nothing to do with your beloved Mr. Bean or Mr. Rowan Atkinson, so avoid disappointment," the statement said.
The British actor who Mr. Bean in the horror flick, William Ferguson played, has said he was angry with the movie and he apologized for the viewers of the movie.
Dheeraj repeated that he never Rowan Atkinson name used in the promotion of his film.
He calls everyone who served a legal case against him to let their cases because they were unfounded.
"I never said Atkinson. If people took that this was him, then it's not my fault; It is their own fault for making assumptions, Dheeraj told The Jakarta Post yesterday. "
Dheeraj said the name "Mr. Bean" referenced a comic character and not Atkinson.
Dheeraj admitted, however, that he was ready to face legal charges say he had marshalled evidence that proved that he was innocent.
"I can only emphasise that I never said anything about Rowan Atkinson, only ' Mr. Bean from England '. «»My actor is really from England and often, he plays the role of ' Mr. Bean ' on local British television channels,» said Dheeraj.
Article 4 of the consumer law of 1999 stipulates that consumers have the right to correct and clear information about the products offered by suppliers. Violation of the article is punishable by up to five years in prison or a fine of 500 million rupiah (US $ 52,841).
