A group of workers from Bangladesh and the Philippines, which held valid work permits, Malaysian had his cheated by a syndicate that had lured them with promises of a better job in Australia and New Zealand.
China Press reported that employees had come to know of the "agent" through banners hung around their workplaces.
Most of the foreign workers had about 5,000 ringgit (US $ 1,639) each paid to the syndicate, writes the Malaysian Chinese-language newspaper.
However, they discovered it was just a scam when the "agent" disappeared.
The foreign workers did not submit reports if they were afraid police apparently that their employers to leave them for plan for a better job maybe fire.
A 36-year-old worker from Bangladesh told the daily that he and the other four workers 4,600 ringgit for the "agent" in order to get them air tickets and had paid for working permits.
"We saw many Malaysians who had also applied on working abroad via the agent so we thought everything was all good," he said, adding that he earned 1,200 ringgit per month working in Kuala Lumpur.
The victim said that some of his friends had borrowed money to pay for the fees.
He also said that they had to go to Australia on 28 October.
