In China, Filippijnen twee keer gestemd meest populaire bestemming

The Philippines was voted the "most popular destination" by the Guangzhou information Times and the Guangzhou International Tourism Fair in separate ceremonies held recently in Guangzhou, China, wrote the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Friday.

The DFA said the Philippines was the "most popular destination in Asia" award presented by Li Xinzhang, vice president of the Guangzhou information times, on price rites was held on 9 March on the Center N travel Display in Guangzhou.

The Guangzhou information times is a subsidiary company of the Guangzhou Daily, the most influential newspaper in Guangzhou, Guangdong's capital city of China's most populous province.

Philippine tourism Undersecretary Daniel Corpuz and consul general to Guangzhou Meeting Tejada accepted the award.

An interview by the Guangzhou information Times and TV followed the ceremony.

The Philippines also received on the same day one of the "most popular destination" awards presented at the Guangzhou International Travel Fair (GITF) Awards night held at the Marriott China Hotel.
The Philippines was the lone contractor from South-East Asia. The other were Dubai, Chicago, South Korea cowinners, Seychelles, Mauritius, Turkey, Sri Lanka, Macau, Italy.

Tejada also accepted the award on behalf of the Philippines.
The GITF is organized by the national tourism administration by the Guangdong Provincial Tourism Administration of Guangzhou Municipality in cooperation with Hannover Milano fairs Shanghai Ltd.

Held every year in Guangzhou, the GITF is recognized as one of the most important annual international travel fairs in the Asia Pacific region for its extensive influence on tourism and the related industries.

The DFA said the Philippine Consulate in Guangzhou 59,861 visa issued to southern Chinese visitors to the Philippines in 2012.

The Philippines will also continue to have strong appeal to the Chinese market such as the Consulate posted an increase of 6.45 percent in visa issuances in January 2013 in the same period last year, the DFA said.

The influx of tourists from China to destinations in the Philippines remained despite tensions over territorial claims in the West Philippine Sea (South China Sea) between the two countries.
