Taiwan's tourism bureau awards 47 local hotels with star rating

Forty-seven hotels across Taiwan have been awarded a star rating, the Tourism Bureau under the Ministry of Transportation and Communications announced yesterday, adding that a total of 222 Taiwanese hotels have been given the designation since 2009.

The Tourism Bureau said the star rating system will continue to help promote the travel industry in Taiwan.

The Fisher Hotel under Fullon Hotels & Resorts in Tamsui was one of the hotels given a rating. It is the ninth hotel owned by Lih Pao Construction Co to receive the status.

Meanwhile, Hotel Royal Group had another of its hotels included in the list. The Okura Hotels & Resorts, which opened in August of this year in Taipei City, was awarded five stars in its first evaluation.

According to the Tourism Bureau, 15 motels passed received a star rating, bringing the number of star-rated motels in Taiwan to 49.

The Tourism Bureau said this year more and more hotels applied for the evaluation, which shows that hotel business owners and customers have realized the importance of positioning and operating strategies in the tourism industry.

The star-rating evaluation system was first brought to Taiwan in 2009 and the award is effective for three years, the Tourism Bureau said.
