Photographs of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi, murdered in their Dhaka home in 2012, were put on display for three days
“Crime scene, do not cross.” The imposing black letters on yellow plastic tape set around the Drik Gallery in Dhaka were designed to make visitors feel as though they were in a crime scene, which, in a way, they were. The ongoing exhibition, after all, centred around murdered journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi.
Behind the yellow tape were souvenirs of a happy family. There were photos of their wedding, drawings by five-year-old son Megh, and colourful memories of the family's stay in Germany.
Also on display was the camera that had documented their daily lives. Most of the photos were taken by Sagar and Runi themselves.
A three-day family photo exhibition had showcased these in Drik Gallery starting February 11, the first anniversary of the couple's death, and ending on February 14.
“These photos are our last remnants of these two people,” family members wrote in a press release. “We have come here to link our sufferings to those of the people of Bangladesh, who cried for us in the last year.”
Sagar, a news editor at Maasranga TV, and his wife Runi, a senior reporter for ATN Bangla, were murdered in their residence in Dhaka on February 11, 2012.
