National airline Garuda Indonesia says it will strengthen the European market this year by adding a flight Jakarta-Amsterdam and entering five major cities on the continent by a code share agreement with Gulf airline Etihad Airways.
Garuda marketing vice president Elisa Lumbantoruan said the airline flight Jakarta-Amsterdam via Abu Dhabi would step up to six times by four times a week starting on June 21.
The airline will also offer services to Brussels, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Milan and Munich this month.
"Europe remains an important market for Garuda and we see an increasing demand of our customers and of Europe lately. This service is an answer to the question and we believe that this market will Garuda and the passengers, "Elisa told The Jakarta Post on Monday.
He said the route Jakarta-Amsterdam would be provided by Garuda Indonesia with an Airbus A330-200 with a capacity of 222 passengers, while other flights would be provided by Etihad Airways by Abu Dhabi International Airport.
"This expansion is expected to help increase our business by 22 percent, by the end of this year," he said.
In March last year slashed the airline its service Amsterdam from seven to four times a week because of the economic downturn in Europe which had affected its clients.
But he said the demand for the service with its passenger load factor grew an average of about 80 percent.
He also said that under the agreement with Etihad Airways, Garuda could be to expand its services to more than 80 destinations in 50 countries served by the carrier wave.
Garuda currently 32 domestic and 18 international destinations with 105 planes.
After the five European cities, the air carrier is set to more cities such as Athens, Dublin, Geneva, Manchester, Muscat and Moscow this year, he said.
"This new connection also benefits European passengers who want to go to Australia and other Asian countries, because the agreement allows us to expand Etihad Airways code share services to the [Asian and Australian] destinations we serve are," he went.
In addition to more frequency on the route of the Jakarta – Amsterdam and the code share agreement he said that Garuda was the capital with London, UK, in October of this year.
The carrier chose Gatwick airport to the functioning of the direct flight service make Gatwick the only airport of the UK passenger link directly to Jakarta.
They would be a brand new Boeing B777-300 Extended Range aircraft that about 300 passengers, between Indonesia and the United Kingdom bear could fly six times a week.
The new plane is expected to arrive in Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in September.
