Well-known screenwriter Park Hoon-jung second feature was finally revealed to the press last week, with three heavyweight actors Choi Min-sik, Hwang ― Jeong-min and Lee Jung-jae ― in the lead.

The film deals with is nothing new, at least in Korean cinema: a criminal organization, the gangsters and the police who are trying to hunt them down. However, Park, who is best known for his screenplays for Kim Ji-woon I saw the devil and Ryu Seung-wan of the unjust, managed to create a heartless and entertaining film about power, greed and betrayal.

New world is in own words, "a film about gangsters in politics, in suits and ties". While do just that, blurs the line between the police and gangsters expertly Park, as well as the good and the bad. The headquarters of the police abuse their low-ranking officers while trying to do the just cause ― the criminals arrested. Some of the gangsters, parts on the other hand, real camaraderie with each other — while all types of illegal acts.

The thriller tells the story of police detective Yes-seong (Lee Jung-jae), who by his manipulative boss Kang (Choi Min-sik) is assigned to an undercover investigation to "Golden Moon" ― one of the largest crime organizations in the country.

Kang asks Yes-seong to spy on the gang (Hwang Jeong-min) served as Deputy Commanding General Jeong Cheong, after finding Yes-seong and the gangster are ethnic Chinese, on top of the same birthplace of Yeosu, South Jeolla Province.

Yes-seong research goes on for eight years and eventually he finds himself caught between Jeong, giving him a "brother" and "trust him with his life ', and his senior detective Park, which only used him and never gives him the recognition he deserves.

The movie gets even more dramatic as the mob boss is suddenly killed in a car accident, and two opposing factions of the group, led by Jeong and the other by ruthless and vengeful Member Lee (Park Seong-woong), compete for power. Detective Kang comes up with a cunning and dangerous plan to arrive between Jeong and Lee ― using Yes-seong trusted position in the Jeong faction ― to break the Golden Crescent. Kang knows his project Yes-seong life at risk, but does not plan to protect him if Yes-seong hits by dire straits.

Hwang Jeong-min (the unjust, you are my sunshine) is impressive as Jeong Cheong, that perhaps the most sympathetic character in the film is. The gangster is a lot of things — he is an ethnic minority, a caring boss and a thorough, competent person. At the press conference said Hwang that he remembers only "having fun" while playing Jeong, which he described as a "chameleon".

"Jeong Cheong is really something," he said. "He is very versatile and has many different qualities and features that make it unique."

Respected veteran actor Choi Min-sik (I saw the devil, Oldboy) is also convincing as the manipulative villain, while Lee Jung-jae (the thieves, The housekeeper) presents a credible portrait of a battle between two different worlds, against his own victim will.

"Yes-seong not really start nor by his own will do," said Lee. "He just gets caught up in things. He is not allowed to show his emotions while should tell lies of all time. I had to somehow provide are real emotions despite its difficult situation, and that the biggest challenge was while playing this character. "

Actor Park Seong-woong is already present in the film, as the charismatic, ruthless gangster who meets an unfortunate end.

New World is an engaging noir with resounding acting and a very entertaining story. Ultimately, it's a film about power and how the blinds who in authority, and those who aspire to it.
