Vietnam probeert internationale steun ter bestrijding van de griep

The Vietnamese Government has invited international partners to help resources to combat avian influenza-A/H7N9, that threatens to spread from neighboring China where it has claimed 27 life out of 128 cases.

The job was done at a Conference, co-organized by the ministries of agriculture and rural development and health in Ha Noi yesterday.

"We take this situation very seriously," said Minister of health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien and Minister of agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat in a joint statement.

"We have learned from experience that animal and human health care must work together and early action to prevent the spread of new diseases that threatens the health of people and animal trade," said the ministers.

To date, Viet Nam has no cases of A/H7N9 in people or poultry reported. But the country had experience with SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome) 10 years ago, and avian flu H5N1 recently.

Deputy Director of the Ministry of Health's preventive medicine Department of Vu Sinh Nam said at the Conference that there was a high risk that A/H7N9 can spread to Viet Nam, given the complicated situation in China and the illegal smuggling of hard-to-control of poultry through border gates.

The Ministry of health has four situations in response to the deadly virus at a total cost of nearly US $ 115 million, of which 36.4 million dollars will come from the Government, while the rest is to be expected from international sources.

In situation 1, if no cases have been reported in humans, the country needs to pay out US $ 17 million, focused on prevention, research and communication, vaccination and equipment for control of the outbreak.

More money will be paid to the handling

Deputy Minister of health Nguyen Thanh long said the estimated amount had carefully studied between the Ministry and international partners, and it would be enough to help Viet Nam, fight the disease.

According to the Ministry, health care at all levels across the country had urged to take precautions against A/H7N9. It had supervision of flu at border crossings to early detection of the first cases improved.

National influenza centers in Ha Noi and HCM City were on stand-by to receive samples to detect the virus A/H7N9 in humans.

Hospitals and healthcare workers in the country had been put on high alert.

Deputy Head of the Ministry of Agriculture Animal Health Department Nguyen Thu Thuy said that had set up a programme for monitoring in the northern provinces to test for the A/H7N9 virus in poultry.

Accordingly, local governments would collect 18,000 copies of 60 live bird markets and bird gathering places for testing against the virus.

An early test by the Ministry and the food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) on 500 poultry samples turned out negative for the virus.

The Ministry also has an estimated 5.5 million US dollars would be needed for a reaction against a outbreaks in poultry.

The world bank specialist Nguyen Thi-Mai said during the Conference that the setting Viet Nam would support in combating an outbreak.

Mai also proposed prevention and control of tasks must be integrated into current projects in communities to cut costs.

The exact amount of the aid would be discussed between the two ministries, she said.

In a joint statement, the World Health Organisation and the FAO in Viet Nam also pledged assistance.

"Although Viet Nam has not yet found A/H7N9 is, early detection is the key to disease prevention, control and containment," who representative in Viet Nam Takeshi Kasai and FAO technical senior co-ordinator Scott Newman declared jointly.

First patient dies of H1N1 in HCM City

HCM City the first fatal case of A/H1N1flu this year yesterday on hospital 7A reported.

The 72-year-old male victim was on 2 may hospital with symptoms of high fever, cough and suffocation after visiting Sac can Gio district forest for two days, said of the family of the victim.

According to the hospital was not in contact with a patient infected people or animals.

The local health department has disinfected the victim home and Tamiflu given to his family to avoid spreading the disease.

This year, the country reported two deaths in the Northern mountainous province of Yen Bai and one in the central province of Thanh Hoa. About 60 people were killed by the virus H1N1 in the country in 2010.
