Jakarta gets ready for June crowds

Jakarta is offering plenty of excitement in connection with its anniversary on June 22

 

Starting early June, Jakarta is where you should be. Why? For one, there is the Jakarta Fair festival, which is being held for a month from June 6 to July 7 at the Jakarta International Expo (JI Expo) in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta.

The event, which is a mix of trade expo and performance art showcases, is ready to repeat its annual success by targeting to host up to 4.8 million visitors this year.

As many as 2,650 participants from various business sectors, including micro, medium and large scale enterprises, will showcase their products this year.

Local artists are gracing stages on each of the 32 nights of the festival, which will feature other activities such as folklore events and the Miss Jakarta Fair beauty pageant.

The capital is replete with malls and this year's Jakarta Great Sale will see 74 of them participating.

The Great Sale is being held from June 1 to July 14, with 7,000 retailers vying to attract customers with discounted items and "midnight sale" events.

A colossal Betawi dance musical performance titled “Ariah” is also set to amaze tourists.

Ariah, which is slated to run from June 28 to 30, will involve 200 dancers, 100 musicians and numerous pencak silat martial arts performances.

The colossal dance will be staged on the nation's biggest ever stage - about 3,456-square-meters divided into three different levels, at the National Monument (Monas) in Central Jakarta. The event is expected to draw around 15,000 spectators.

Then annual rock festival Java Rockin’ Land is scheduled to run on June 22 and June 23 at Carnaval Beach Ancol, North Jakarta.
This year's lineup includes international acts such as Collective Soul, Hellogoodbye, Sixpence None the Richer and Sugar Ray.

One that should not be missed is the annual Jalan Jaksa Festival the one that usually held in the mid June.

Jl. Jaksa, a small street in Central Jakarta is known as a haven for foreign tourist, mostly backpakers. The street which is lined with dozens of hotels, hostels and bars will offer an array of merchandise and local cuisine during the three-day festival.

The festival also featured various traditional dance performances from different regions in Indonesia.
