Thailand's B-floor theater is joining a Italian musician tribute to a philosopher who was burned at the stake for his beliefs

After staging the mega-project ' Survival Games ' in January, are members of Thai physical theatre company B-floor now undertaking smaller projects. First up is "The Giordano Bruno Project", Nana-Dakin and Sasapin Siriwanij interdisciplinary collaboration with Bangkok-based Italian musician Jacopo Gianninoto.

The idea for this work began when Sasapin executed in the Baroque Me Baby ", to which the Gianninoto" Italian musician artists from various disciplines invited to him at the goal of "taking the music of her formal context."

"Although he historical music on a historical instrument plays, he is trying to show that all this actually very contemporary," says Nana.

"It was a good cooperation and led to Jacopo proposes this new project that requires two performers. Sasapin invited me-so technically it's not a B-floor cooperation. He wants to live music and physical movements blend with the reading or performing some texts.

"We started by brainstorming. The first idea came from Jacopo, who stated that Giordano Bruno was an Italian astronomer and philosopher. Neither of us had heard of him but of Jacopo, we learned that in the 17th century he was burned at the stake because his ideas against the teachings of the Catholic Church. He had many ideas that were considered wild at the time but have become so widely accepted. "

Nana says that she and Sasapin this story with what's happening today there, adding that they are interested in exploring "what happens if you have ideas that are inconsistent with what the majority believe" can cover.

"This keeps happening, not only in Thailand but in many countries around the world.

"Sometimes Sasapin and I worked on our own during rehearsals, without Jacopo, so that we can come up with ideas for physical movements. We also worked with him and included his artistic contribution. Since everything is live on the stage, we needed to listen to and understand what the other communicates though we do not speak to each other to exercise. "

While "The Giordano Bruno Project" is based on a historical figure, Nana guarantees that there is no "a history lesson".

"Of course, the public gets info about Giordano Bruno, but overall, the piece is quite abstract. We want to create a friendly atmosphere for the audience. Jacobo the Renaissance lute is soothing and Sasapin and I run the physical movements, as well as some texts read. We also use some props and objects in our performance. At certain points, we invite the public to interact with us. "

After three performances in Bangkok, will "The Giordano Bruno Project" be part of the Bel Teatro Festival in Padova, Italy on 25 July.

Nana says, "while we a mixture of Thai and English in performance here will speak, it will be Thai and Italian there. Jacopo will take part in the text portion and Sasapin and I will soon Italian language lessons. "
