Autumn in Hue falls with ethereal grace

The ordinary and the ethereal meet in a series of oil paintings by Nguyen Duy Linh is now on display at Tu Do Gallery in Ho Chi Minh.

The Hue-based artist's 20 works on canvas are a "window through which city people can view the beauty of life and people living in Hue, one of the country's most attractive destinations," according to Tran Thi Thu Ha, owner of Tu Do Gallery.

"Linh studied painting in Hue so his style is traditional. We see that he approaches art with a Vietnamese soul," she said.

A series of works depicting Hue in autumn called Mua Thu Bay (Flying Autumn) shows the city during a beautiful time of the year.

Linh's style has the appearance of simplicity, and his works such as Ngoi Nha Co Vuon Hoa Dai (House with Wildflower Garden), Sao Bang (Bolide), and the autumn pieces are colourful and vibrant.

"I'm inspired by all things in nature, especially daily life with historic houses, flowers, and ordinary people," said the 57-year-old Linh, who works for Hue Fine Arts College.

The red, blue and grey series of Mua Thu Bay depicts the movement of the wind, trees, flowers and grass.

Linh has had several solo and group exhibitions in Viet Nam, India, Japan, Thailand, France and the UK.

"I'm very happy to introduce my work in HCM City," he said.

The exhibition will end on November 26 at Tu Do Gallery, 53 Ho Tung Mau Street, District 1.
