The land RAID on eventueel's world's most important art event is particularly meaningful this year for the Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, Arsenale central site first will be situated.
Curator Carla Bianpoen told The Jakarta Post, "the National Pavilion of Indonesia on 500 square meters in the Arsenale is a big step. We hope to show that Indonesia takes his place and of par on the global map ... The art works will indicate how Indonesia repositioning itself in the middle of increasing global forces of today, and it is hoped that the world will take due note. "
With the theme of ' sakti ' for the art that is offering the land of embody the exhibition work the term power, divine energy, creative power, magic, charisma and much more.
Of the Islamic, Christian and Hindu iconography on the portico and Entang are representations of political figures-according to tradition that in power sakti-to the understated incarnation produced by Sri Astari in her wayang figures ready in a Javanese pendopo, regarded as the Pavilion of Indonesia resonates with different interpretations of the evocative Word.
Albert Yonathan Setyawan said his illustrations, 1200 simple stupa-inspired ceramic figurines set in a labyrinth pattern on the floor, related to sakti if the piece refers to the process of lighting and the universal human condition.
"I tried to mix [the stupa shapes and pattern] with the idea of the theme of sakti, the transforming energy. For me the process of transformation has to boot from the self, of the man himself, and I try to connect also with the idea of spirituality beyond the limits of institutionalized religion, "he told the Post of his work titled cosmic Labyrinth: The Silent Path.
For Entang, who said he had been focused on creating the Indonesian: No Time to hide for a year, sakti has to do with both the individual and the universal, while also articulated the diversity of the country.
"That is why I have created a very massive and very individual [work] and also at the same time very universal ... It's about the complexity, so I wanted to capture that condition, to Indonesia of not only a perspective but many, "he told the Post.
The concept of sakti is reflected in music by composer Rahayu Supanggah was created specifically for the Pavilion. The quiet, special scheme of deep gongs, flutes and wind, and the tings gamelan instruments and bird species, with the occasional burst of energy, adds to the aura of reflection which leads to the space, offering a version of sakti in soundscape.
Titarubi the shadow of surrender stands still and terrifying after entering the Pavilion space by the Entang port, a supernatural work of nine school desks made of burnt wood, great books on top of each filled with blank pages. Carla said the wood was recovered from colonial era railroad tracks, and the pieces are burned in a reference to the artist's mother used charcoal for cooking. The background features massive images of trees, the Titarubi sakti in respect of both education and environment, to knowledge and the natural world.
"Every artist was pretty sakti according to their own liking and personal experience to interpret and apply their characteristic arts practice. Interesting, [Sri] Astari who comes from the Javanese cultural background where sakti inherent and Albert Yonathan which comes from Bandung, West Java, and just turned 30, are in the similar wave of spiritual transformation, by trying to go in it yourself. Astari find the power of sakti within the soul, Albert through the silent path of meditation in the labyrinth. Titarubi finds the power in knowledge, while Eko [Nugroho] and watch the nation and how the Entang survives against all odds, "said Carla.
Eko's work, placed next to Sri Astari Pendopo: dancing the wild seas and its elegant calls of the goddess of the South Sea through its figures in a rather non-contiguous bedoyo dance, on the other hand, still also is rooted in oceanic symbolism.
The artist presents a bamboo raft seated stress used Pertamina vessels with cartoonish, colorful figures float on the ocean is absent. Titled instigator of storms, speaks the work of Indonesia's continuing-and very modern-problems and uncertainties.
Carla said of the Venice Biennale, "it is a place where the world is collected." For the 55th iteration of the event, will for the first time together with countries such as the Maldives, Iraq and Kosovo are displayed:
the Holy See.
Albert said for his invitation to show his art in Venice, "It is a privilege for me to be part of this, a special occasion." for Indonesia
Known as the site where the future of art is exhibited every two years, will Indonesia's presence in Venice a "milestone", as the Pavilion manufacturer Restu Iman sari Kusumaningrum, put it.
