Superstar spinner David Guetta cranks it up in Bangkok on Thursday

Next Thursday, French DJ David Guetta is scheduled to perform in a long-overdue Bangkok debut at Bitec Bangna where fans will get to party up close and personal with the world's most famous DJ.

Organised by house music promoters Retox Session and AG Productions who previously brought in acts like Danny Howells, Paolo Mojo, Sasha, Steve Lawler, Paul Van Dyk and most recently Snoop Dogg, the show promises to be Guetta's full production show, accompanied with a state-of-the-art light and sound system.

You might have never heard of his name, but it's very likely that you know at least one of his many dance floor hits. Since his international breakthrough in the late 2000s, Guetta has rocked music charts all over the world with his collaborations with a laundry list of international superstars.

Among his well-known hits are "The World is Mine" (with JD Davis), "Last Train" (with Miss Ting), "Baby When the Light", "When Love Takes Over" (with Kelly Rowland), "Sexy Bitch" (with Akon), "One the Dancefloor" (with will.i.am and apl.de.ap) and "I Gotta Feeling" (with the Black Eyed Peas).

His latest, fifth studio album, "Nothing But the Beat" from 2011, has thus far spawned four hit singles on the US Hot 100 - "Where Them Girls At" (with Nicki Minaj and Flo Rida), "Without You" (with Usher), "Turn Me On" (with Nicki Minaj) and "Titanium" (with Sia). They're his third, fourth, fifth and sixth top-20 singles, respectively. So far he has sold over six million albums and 15 million singles worldwide.

In 2011 he was voted the number one DJ by fans in DJmag's Top 100 DJs poll. He's also recently earned VEVO Certification for having six YouTube videos draw 100 million views. Guetta is the man that all the crowds want, and his performance in Bangkok is sure to be an evening of non-stop screaming and dancing.

The 45-year-old DJ started his career in the mid-1990s where he played in clubs including Le Centrale, the Rex, Le Boy and Folies Pigalle. It was not until 2001 that Guetta along with Joachim Garraud founded Gum Productions, and in the same year Guetta's first hit single, "Just a Little More Love" was released.

Guetta's carefree attitude - he only produces good music while he's having fun - kept the DJ from releasing anything until "Just a Little More Love". The track featured American gospel singer Chris Willis, who met Guetta while on vacation in France. The album sold over 300,000 copies.

That success was followed by a compilation, "F**k Me I'm Famous" in 2003, which was named after his party in Ibiza. "Guetta Blaster" and "Pop Life", his second and third studio albums, followed to even bigger acclaim.

In 2009 he released "One Love", a platinum-selling album featuring the singles "When Love Takes Over" "Sexy Bitch" and "Gettin Over".

In the same year the Black Eyed Peas released the Guetta-produced "I Gotta Feeling" as the second single from their fifth studio album, "The END". It topped the charts in 17 countries and became the most downloaded song of all time in the US - almost 7.5 million downloads - in the UK, another million.

A year later American rapper Flo Rida released the single "Club Can't Handle Me" featuring Guetta. The song is included on the soundtrack album to the blockbuster dance film "Step Up 3D".

As of May 2011 the album had sold three million copies and it was also nominated for a Best Electronic/Dance Album Grammy.

"Nothing But the Beat" was re-released last year as "Nothing But the Beat 2.0". The first single followed, "She Wolf (Falling to Pieces)", which saw Guetta collaborate with Sia yet again.

Guetta also wrote, produced and featured on Rihanna's seventh studio album, "Unapologetic", and will act as the support act for the European leg of her upcoming Diamonds World Tour.

David Guetta performs at Bitec near Bang Na Skytrain station at 8.30 pm on Thursday.
