The Langkawi International Maritime and aerospace exhibition broke records this time around presence
The five-day Langkawi International Maritime and aerospace exhibition (Lima) 2013 came to an end record breaking with the largest number of local participants and visitors so far.
The exhibition, which opened on Tuesday, brought in nearly 200,000 visitors this time around, much more than its original target of 100,000.
Visitors at the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre (MIEC) were amazed at the acrobatic stunts orchestrated by the different teams of aircraft, including Krisakti of the Royal Malaysian air force, Russian Knights from Russia and Jupiter from the Indonesian air force, while those in Porto Malai were able to see the quick maneuvers of speedboats of different law enforcement agencies.
Other than the business conferences and business forums for trading participants saw Lima 2013 also throngs of people an interest in visiting the ships and getting a closer look at the different machines.
Among the vessels that pulled the visitors were the Malaysian frigates KD Jebat and KD Kelantan.
They were also taken by ferries on board foreign frigates such as the KRI Beladau of BNS Dhaleshwari from Bangladesh, Indonesia, Thailand, and Phuket from Russian destroyers HTMS Marshall Shaposhenkov and Altai.
Visitor Abdul Hamid Darus, 54, and his wife Aishah Abdul Rahman, 53, who brought their four children, said they were regular visitors to Lima since its inception in 1991.
"This time we brought our six grandchildren. It's just as exciting as it was the first time, "said Abdul Hamid.
The couple's oldest daughter, Rawiyah, who in her 30s, said she was impressed by the aerial stunts from the Russian Knights.
"Hopefully in 2015, there will be even more planes on display and even more nail-biting performances.
"We hope back again," the doctorate student added.
