A police constable at the District Police Office in Dolakha in central Nepal has been held in connection with the recent string of burglaries in the district headquarters.

Police Constable Khemraj Praja, who was stationed at the residence of the chief district officer, was caught with stolen items by a police team on Monday morning. Praja’s nephew Sandesh was also taken into custody.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Om Prasad Adhikari said the initial investigation had revealed that Praja was involved in more than four counts of burglaries that took place in the area in recent days.

Praja had spearheaded a team of burglars that went on to break and enter local shops and houses. He had been selling off the stolen goods in Hetauda through his relatives. Following his arrest, police raided Praja’s apartment and recovered stolen articles.

DSP Adhikari said they are looking for Praja's accomplices. At least three dozen cases of burglary were reported in the district in the last three months.
